ABOUT US
I started formulating hair products in 2016, back when I was still obsessed with curly hair. Honestly, I big-chopped and transitioned from relaxed to natural hair purely because I wanted a specific type of curl pattern.
At the time, the only way I could achieve the look I wanted was by using gels. But I wasn’t happy—my hair always felt dry and crunchy. That’s when I started wondering: what if I could create a cream that defines curls like a gel but leaves hair soft and bouncy? Since I couldn’t find what I needed on the market, I started experimenting in my kitchen. That’s how I developed my first curly cream using flaxseeds.
Ironically, once I finally got the curls I had always wanted, my obsession with curly hair disappeared. Instead, I fell in love with my natural texture. I embraced my Afro and took pride in combing it out into a big, beautiful crown. Dr.Kanks has been a journey of self-love and growth, shifting my focus from curl patterns to what truly matters—healthy hair. This led me to develop two more product lines designed to hydrate and soften hair, regardless of texture.
I truly believe there is no such thing as "good hair" or "bad hair." If you're unhappy with your hair right now, it’s likely because your routine isn’t aligned with your hair’s needs—its type, density, or porosity. The problem is never your hair; it's the products (yes, even if it’s Dr.Kanks).
I’m Dr. Cynthia Kankeu, a mother, entrepreneur, and scientist from Cameroon. Though I hold a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences, my passion for hair led me to create Dr.Kanks. I started by formulating products in my kitchen, crafting handmade solutions with minimal preservatives and mostly natural ingredients. Our formulations contain only 3 to 5 synthetic ingredients, depending on the product, and are specifically designed with hair porosity in mind. Most importantly, every product is made with love and passion.
As a scientist, I’m committed to continuous research—seeking the best ingredients and formulations to serve all hair types.
P.S. You are beautiful just as you are. If we don’t embrace our own hair, who will?
