Dr.Kanks started in my kitchen in 2016.

I had just big-chopped my relaxed hair because I wanted a specific curl pattern. The only way I could define my curls was with gels — but my hair always felt dry and crunchy. So I asked myself: why can’t curls be defined and soft?

As a scientist, I did what I always do — I formulated. That’s how I created my first flaxseed curly cream: definition like a gel, softness like a cream.

Ironically, once I achieved the curls I wanted, I stopped obsessing over curl patterns and fell in love with my natural texture. I embraced my Afro and shifted my focus from “perfect curls” to healthy hair.
